Best Surf Spots

1. Quobba Station

Quobba Station is renowned for its great surf breaks, with the best time to surf from May through August.

2. Red Bluff (The Bluff)

Red Bluff, the main surf break at Quobba Station, features a left-hand point break offering barrels that can go over 100 meters on the best days. This spot is ideal for advanced surfers.

3. Blowholes

Just south of Red Bluff, Blowholes provide an A-frame appearance and are best surfed on bigger days. Access this spot via the beach or off-road tracks south of Red Bluff.

4. Gnaraloo Station

Gnaraloo is famous for world-class waves along its section of the West Coast. The surf is mainly for experienced surfers, but beginners can attempt it on calmer days.

  • Tombstones Tombstones offer a left-hand barrel from start to finish, best at mid to high tide with south-southeast winds. Waves can break up to 300-500m. Access is via a 2km drive south of the 3 Mile campsite.
  • Centres (Centre Peak) Centres is a steep, fast left-hander, occasionally offering barrels. It’s good at all tides and averages 2.5-3m waves. Known as a “gentlemen’s spot,” it’s a place to share the waves.
  • Midgies Midgies, a fast, hollow left-hander south of Tombstones, is recommended for experienced surfers only. Best at mid to high tide.
  • Turtles Turtles offer both left and right peeling reef breaks, with the left producing a hollow bowl. Best suited for experienced surfers, Turtles are accessible via a 25-minute drive south of 3 Mile Camp on 4WD tracks.
  • Fencies (Fenceline) Fencelines provide a more mellow option, perfect for those not ready for the outer reefs. It’s a fun right and left peak at mid to low tide.
  • Gnaraloo Bay Gnaraloo Bay offers a more relaxed wave, though not for beginners. This solid left barrel wraps around a shallow reef, accessible via a 7km drive from Gnaraloo Homestead.
