Dwyer’s Leap Situated on the Gascoyne River mouth, Dwyer’s Leap is a great spot for catching Mangrove Jack, Bream, Whiting, and Flathead, especially on an incoming tide. It is located on Babbage Island Road and's just a short 3 km drive from the town centre.
Town Beach Town Beach is ideal for catching Flathead, Bream, and Whiting. Further along, Pelican Point offers opportunities to catch Bream, Whiting, and Flathead in the shallows, and Tailor, Shark, and Trevally in the deeper parts of the channel.
Miaboolya Beach North of Carnarvon, Miaboolya Beach is the only known nursery for Tailor in the Gascoyne. You can also catch Mulloway, Flathead, Giant Threadfin, Goldspotted Rockcod, Mangrove Jack, Western Yellowfin Bream, Dart, Yellowfin Whiting, and Goldenline Whiting. Crabs, prawns, and mantis shrimp are also abundant.
Accessible by boat, Bernier and Dorre Islands are among Carnarvon’s best-kept fishing secrets. From April to October, catch Pink Snapper, Spangled Emperor, Red Emperor, Coral Trout, Groper, Cod, Spanish Mackerel, and Cobia. Note that Bernier Island permits day access only with no camping, while access to Dorre Island is prohibited, but anchoring and overnight stays on boats are allowed.
